Made by a young company based in Arusha, Tanzania, a selection of beautiful beaded necklaces are produced. Combined with bright coloured silk, kanga, voile and other materials, the necklaces are made with a variety of recycled glass beads, painted stones, silver and other beads making a unique necklace for you to enjoy

The work is undertaken by a small workshop comprising 14 disabled, deaf and mute employees. All have worked hard to make a living and clearly enjoy the progressive and friendly working environment that has been set up to enable them to have jobs and earn there own money.

  

 Mzuri Fairtrade paper beads

Mzuri Paper Beads: Mzuribeads is a sustainable business offering you top quality recycled paper beads, handmade by a cooperative of women in Uganda. The beads are made by cutting triangular strips from recycled magazines and posters. Each strip is rolled one by one around a needle and held in place with a dab of glue. Once the beads rolled they are strung up, varnished and left to dry for 3-5 days. They are then finished and left with a glossy and water resistant finish.

 We will be using these beads to make jewellery and we will be selling them in packs for you to make your own jewellery.

   

Barkcloth Beads: Barkcloth is made by beating sodden strips of the fibrous inner bark of trees into sheets. Alike the paper bead, it is cut into strips and rolled into form. These beads are made by our friends at Kwetu Africa. Alike Mzuribeads, Kwetu Africa is a similar sustainable business promoting environmental awareness and encouraging recycling. These beads are fabulous for designing jewellery and interior decor.

   

 

Recycled Glass Beads: These are small and delicate, recycled glass beads. Individually, handmade by our Ugandan friends at Paper Craft. Each bead is approx 10mm approx diameter, with hole size 1mm approx. They are all handmade, therefore, they vary in size and shape.

Banana Leaf Beads: Made from the dried out strips of banana leaf. These beads are hand rolled just like the paper bead. Each bead is approx 10mm, with approx 3mm hole size. These beads were made by our friends at Kwetu Africa. Alike Mzuribeads, Kwetu Africa is a similar sustainable business promoting environmental awareness and encouraging recycling. These beads are fabulous for designing jewellery and interior decor.

Postage and Packing in the UK is FREE but we do ask that you place a minimum order of £5 for mailorder.
